Brussels care homes experience culture with livestream from Brussels Operetta Theatre

Ten Brussels residential care homes and local service centres have enjoyed a cultural treat on Friday thanks to the livestream of a performance by the Brussels Operetta Theatre from the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS). The aim of the live stream is to enable vulnerable and elderly Brussels residents to enjoy cultural performances or theatre.
From their seats in the residential care centre or local service centre, the elderly were able to watch the Brussels Operetta Theatre's performance of “Rosen aus dem Süden”. Two hundred senior citizens watched the livestream remotely. In addition, KVS itself welcomed an audience of 375 visitors, including 170 from the residential care and service centres.
“In a city like ours, we must take care of everyone and leave no one behind. Especially during this festive season, it is very important that less mobile and socially isolated Brussels residents also feel a sense of warmth and have access to culture,” stated state secretary Ans Persoons, who attended the performance.
Care centres can attend the performance completely free of charge, both physically and via livestream. The livestream and performances are an initiative of the Brussels Operetta Theatre, the Flemish Community Commission (VGC) - Paspartoe, the 22 Brussels community centres and the Brussels Elderly Platform.
