Brussels Art Week 2024: four days, forty venues, one citywide celebration

From 4 to 7 September, Brussels will host Brussels Art Week, with exhibitions and events spread across more than forty venues throughout the city. New this year is the Salon de RendezVous on Rue de la Régence, a central gathering point conceived as an in situ installation by artist Zoë Williams.
The festival is an initiative of RendezVous, which was founded by curators Laure Decock and Evelyn Simons. They aim to establish Brussels as a prominent player on the international art scene by showcasing the city's rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Over the four days, visitors can explore exhibitions in galleries, museums, institutions, and private collections, and attend studio visits in collaboration with spaces such as Level Five, SB34, KultXL, and WIELS. The programme also features guided tours of Brussels neighbourhoods, performances, lectures, panel discussions, listening sessions and late-night parties. Artist Sharon Van Overmeiren will present a large-scale inflatable sculpture in a public space, and numerous participating galleries will host artist talks.
“Brussels Art Week offers a rare glimpse into the city’s broad and diverse art scene, opening doors to the living and working spaces of its artists”, say the organisers. “Brussels is unique: a metropolis where fur coats brush against leather jackets, where you can enjoy an aperitif with a Gueuze, a pint or a glass of Champagne. It remains a place where young artists can still afford to live and work alongside a network of leading galleries and established institutions presenting outstanding exhibitions”.
