Brussels Airport to allow larger liquids in hand luggage

Brussels Airport will introduce new security scanners from 2028, allowing passengers to carry larger liquid containers in hand luggage.
The airport said the new body scanners and CT scanners will mean travellers no longer need to remove liquids or electronics during security checks. Liquids will be allowed in containers of up to two litres.
Work on the new system will begin next year. The first scanners are expected to be in use in 2028, while the full security area should be upgraded by summer 2029 with 19 new screening lanes. A first body scanner test is planned for June.
Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist said the technology would improve both safety and passenger experience, while also increasing capacity for future growth.
Current EU rules, introduced in 2006, limit passengers to liquids of 100ml in a clear plastic bag because of security concerns over explosives.
