Brussels Airport tests mobile air filter to remove ultrafine particles from the air

Brussels Airport and Belgian aerospace company Safran Aero Boosters will begin testing a large mobile air filter next week, designed to remove fine and ultrafine particulate matter from the air near the airport apron. The partners announced the pilot project on Friday.
The device, developed by Safran Aero Boosters with support from the Walloon Region, is a mobile prototype that will be tested in operational conditions over the next three months. An initial trial earlier this year produced encouraging results, and the new test phase, which runs until the end of September, will assess the filter’s effectiveness and potential future applications.
The system draws in surrounding air and removes fine and ultrafine particles using an advanced industrial filtration process. According to Brussels Airport, it is the first airport in the world to test such a mobile air filtration system in a fully operational airport environment.
"The pilot project with the mobile air filter is a great example of how we can improve local air quality through innovation," said Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist. "A promising technology that, according to initial results, can make a difference for our employees and local residents."
