Brussels Airlines unveils new Atomium-themed aircraft
Brussels Airlines is adding a new Belgian icon to its fleet: an Atomium-themed aircraft inspired by the Brussels landmark. The latest design will soon join its fleet of decorated planes that celebrate Belgium’s culture and heritage.
The carrier is known for its themed aircraft, including the Tintin-themed Rackham, the Tomorrowland plane Amare and Trident, the official aircraft of the Red Devils and the Red Flames football teams. Past designs have also honoured Belgian icons like Magritte, the Smurfs and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
With the new Atomium-themed plane, the airline aims to take this emblem of Belgian architecture worldwide. “The Atomium has been attracting visitors to Belgium for years; now the iconic Belgian monument can travel around the world itself,” the company said.
The winning design by Belgian architect Thomas Faes was chosen from more than 900 entries in a competition open to the public.
