Bpost installs country's largest parcel locker in Leuven
Postal service Bpost has installed the largest parcel locker in Belgium on the Philips site in Leuven. The locker, which has space for 184 parcels, is 11m long and weighs 3.5 tonnes.
The installation of the parcel locker, consisting of 23 separate modules that were linked together, took six hours. The locker is fully operational.
“Parcel lockers, like this one in Leuven, are an important element of Bpost's ambition to be closer than ever [to people],” said CEO Chris Peeters. “Whether you work from home or not: in a locker, you simply pick up your parcel when it suits you, and you can return it just as easily. It’s also the most environmentally friendly way to receive or send a parcel.”
There are 29 Bpost parcel lockers in Leuven, including four of the 10 most used lockers in the country. Bpost's first lockers were installed in 2011 and the postal service has 1,116 lockers across Belgium, which together can store 47,000 parcels.
Bpost also wants to further expand its network, VRT reports. Five more lockers will be added in Leuven in the near future. The company's intention is to ensure that everyone has a pick-up point within a six-minute drive from home.
