Boy (12) dies after police chase ends in collision in Brussels park

A 12-year-old boy has died following a police chase that ended in a fatal collision in Elisabeth Park, Ganshoren, Brussels, on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 5:50pm, when a police vehicle struck the boy, who was riding an e-scooter.

According to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, the boy fled after officers attempted to stop him for a check. A pursuit ensued, during which the collision occurred. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the child at the scene before transferring him to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Initial findings confirm the involvement of a police vehicle from the Brussels-West police zone. A traffic expert and a forensic pathologist have been appointed to determine the precise circumstances and cause of death. The Standing Police Monitoring Committee (Comité P) is now conducting an independent investigation.

Due to the victim’s age and the ongoing investigation, authorities have stated that no further details will be released at this time.
