With the Floridylle festival, the botanical gardens in Meise end a busy year
The 7th edition of the Floridylle light and sound festival at the Botanical Gardens in Meise was a sell-out. During the last school holidays, the event attracted around 23,000 visitors. With more than 245,000 visitors in 2022, the botanical garden also got more visitors than expected.
The concept of the Floridylle festival remained the same: visitors were offered a tour with a sound and light show. The recently opened Island Garden was also included. In total, the walk was 3.5 kilometres long. "All the arrangements were based on the world of plants and gardens," Manon van Hoye of the Botanical Gardens in Meise explained.
The year 2022 was also positive for the Meise Botanical Garden, which welcomed over 245,000 visitors, 20,000 more than the previous year. "Our goal was to reach 250,000 visitors by 2025. So we are almost there", van Hoye noted.
The Botanical Garden Meise is one of the most extensive botanical gardens in the world. Since 2014, the Botanical Garden Agency, which manages the site, has been part of the Flemish government. Besides organising various activities and annual events, the botanical garden harbours two research departments, a herbarium with about 4,000,000 collection items, a library and extensive living collections with more than 20,000 species.
Together with the Royal Belgian Botanical Society, the botanical garden is responsible for the scientific journal Plant Ecology and Evolution, introduced in 2010.
