The body of missing Belgian tourist Dries De Graeve has been found near the Moroccan city of Agadir, his family has confirmed. The 29-year-old from Ghent disappeared last month while travelling with friends.
Moroccan media reported that a body was found on Monday afternoon near the spot where De Graeve disappeared last month. His family described his death as “an unimaginable loss”.
“It is with great sadness that we announce Dries’ body was found in the rural mountains near Agadir,” his family wrote on social media.
“We are deeply grateful to the authorities, friends, family and locals who stood by us and supported the search during this painful time … Dries will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”
De Graeve was last seen by his friends on the night of 18-19 November, when he spent the night camping on the beach in Tamri, near where his body was found. The last reported sighting of him was on 20 November in Taghazout.
Earlier this month, his family set up an AI-based website that scanned uploaded photos using facial recognition software. His cousin, ethical hacker Inti De Ceukelaire, said he had also accessed the missing man’s online accounts in an attempt to find him.
