Body of Belgian woman found in Tenerife
The body of a Belgian woman has been found on the Spanish island of Tenerife, the Belgian Foreign ministry has confirmed. The woman's husband is still missing.
On Wednesday, Spain's National Missing Persons Centre announced that Laura T., a 66-year-old Belgian woman who had been missing with her husband since last week, had been found.
The Spanish authorities initially did not disclose whether the woman was still alive. They have since informed the Belgian authorities that the woman's lifeless body has been found, a Foreign ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.
A judicial inquiry has been launched. Marc O., the woman's 71-year-old husband, is still missing. The Foreign ministry is not giving any further details about the case.
According to the local Spanish newspaper El Día, the woman was the victim of a murder. Her mutilated body was reportedly recovered from the sea on Saturday. A bag had been placed over her head.
The body was in a state of decomposition, suggesting that she had been dead for several days. Laura T. lived in the town of Adeje, in the southwest of the island, with her husband.
