Bilateral budget talks end with no further meetings planned on Wednesday

The federal government’s core cabinet will not reconvene on Wednesday evening, several sources close to the negotiations have confirmed.
After Tuesday night’s difficult core cabinet meeting on the upcoming budget, prime minister Bart De Wever of N-VA resumed bilateral talks with ministers of other parties on Wednesday. Instead of continuing those negotiations, De Wever called up senior members of N-VA, indicating that a budget agreement is far from imminent.
A meeting of the National Security Council on recent drone sightings is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00. De Wever will then meet with deputy ministers, after which he will go to the Royal Palace, VRT reports.
In practice, that would amount to offering his resignation, though it remains to be seen whether King Philippe would accept it immediately. The king could instead keep it “under consideration” and ask De Wever to continue efforts to secure an agreement.
