Belgium wins World Student Diplomacy Championship for 11th time
Belgium has emerged as the winner of the World Student Diplomacy Championship. The championship, a competitive simulation of the United Nations, took place over the past five days in Taipei, Taiwan.
Harvard WorldMUN (Model United Nations) organises the annual world championship, which is modelled on the United Nations. For four days, 1,000 to 1,500 young people from around a hundred countries immerse themselves in the role of diplomats, advocating for the interests of the country they represent. Each participant represents a delegation from a country other than his or her own.
Inter-university team
This year, the Belgian inter-university team consisted of 23 students from Belgian universities, including UNamur, UCLouvain, ULB, KU Leuven, VUB, and UAntwerpen. According to Nick Swinnen, chairman of the Belgian delegation, speaking to Belga, Belgium mainly represented Pakistan, Canada, and Denmark.
Several topical issues were at the centre of the conference, including cybersecurity, energy transition, nuclear energy and migration to Syria.
