Belgium passes the 4 million mark in COVID-19 infections

In Belgium, the milestone of four million COVID-19 infections has been exceeded. This is shown by the most recent figures from Sciensano, the Belgian health authorities closely monitor the situation. The number of infections, hospital admissions and hospital stays continues to fall.

Last week, the number of COVID-19 infections in Belgium dropped by 30%. Between 12 and 18 April, about 6,011 new infections were reported every day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Belgium has recorded 4,015,791 cases of COVID-19.

Between 15 and 21 April, an average of 188 people affected by the coronavirus were hospitalised each day, which is 16% less than the previous week. The number of patients in hospitals fell by 6% to 2,950. Last week, 154 people stayed in intensive care, a decrease of 16 percent.

An average of 23 people still die every day from the effects of the coronavirus, 4% less than in the previous week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Belgium has registered more than 31,300 coronary deaths.
