Belgium off to perfect Champions League start with Club Brugge win over AS Monaco

Club Brugge recorded a convincing 4-1 victory against AS Monaco on Thursday night, marking the second win for a Belgian team in the opening week of the Champions League group stage.
The match began shakily for Brugge, gifting Monaco an early penalty. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, however, kept them in the game with a crucial save. From then on, the Belgian club took control. Nicolo Tresoldi, Raphael Onyedika, Hans Vanaken and Mamadou Diakhon all found the net, before Monaco debutant Ansu Fati scored a late consolation in stoppage time.
The result follows Union Saint-Gilloise’s 3-1 victory over Dutch champions PSV on Tuesday, giving Belgian clubs a perfect start to the competition.
Club Brugge will face Atalanta on Tuesday 30 September, while Union meet Newcastle the following day.
