Belgium issues €2 commemorative coin to thank healthcare sector

Belgium is going to issue a commemorative €2 coin to thank the healthcare sector for its efforts during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Royal Decree published in the Belgian Official Journal on Wednesday.

The coin will be made “in appreciation of the exceptional efforts of the healthcare sector during the Covid-19 pandemic,” according to Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem’s Royal Decree.

On the coin, pictograms of a cross, a stethoscope, a heart, a syringe, a wheelchair and a chemical mixture will be present, all referring to the healthcare. The text “danke – merci – dank u” will be added.

The coin, which was designed by Belgian coin designer Luc Luycx, will be issued this spring. Last year, Italy already issued a special €2 coin as a symbol of gratitude for the efforts of care workers during the coronavirus crisis.
