Belgium is world's fifth largest importer of champagne: over 10 million bottles sold

The export of champagne to Belgium has increased (considerably) again in 2021. This is apparent from figures provided by the champagne houses. Last year, champagne sales in our country generated a record turnover of 167 million euros.
After a slight decrease in the Belgian import of champagne in 2020 (-1,9 percent in volume), there was a substantial growth of 12,4 percent in 2021 (compared to 2019, pre-pandemic) . For the first time since 1999, more than 10 million bottles were sold (10,3 million).
This makes Belgium the fifth largest importer of champagne worldwide, according to figures of the Comité Champagne, a federation representing wine estates and champagne houses.
