Belgium sends two BMX riders to Olympics for first time

Belgium can send two BMX riders to the Olympic Games, the Belgian Cycling Federation has confirmed. A Belgian cyclist will participate in both the men's and women's events.

The number of BMX riders that countries can send to Paris is determined on the basis of the Olympic country ranking. Belgium finished 10th on this ranking, securing two places.

It’s not yet clear which riders will represent Belgium. The main candidates are Elke Vanhoof, Valerie Vossen and Aiko Gommers in the women’s competition, and Ruben Gommers and Wannes Magdelijns in the men’s event.

The favourites are Vanhoof and Gommers. Vanhoof has already competed twice at the Olympics, finishing sixth in 2016 and 11th in 2021. If selected, it would be Gommers' Olympic debut.

The BMX competition will take place on 1 and 2 August.
