Belgium fifth in Motocross des Nations
26 September 2022

Jago Geerts (MXGP), Jeremy Van Horebeek (MX Open) and Liam Everts (MX2) gave Belgium a fifth-place finish in the Motocross of the Nations on Sunday at the RedBud circuit in Buchanan, Michigan. The home riders won the race. National coach Roger De Coster selected Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton. With 16 points, they outperformed the French (23pts) and the Australians (26). Outgoing champion Italy (49) was also just ahead of Belgium (50).
After a second place from Jago Geerts and a 12th from Liam Everts in the first series (MXGP & MX2), the Belgians were still third, behind the United States and Australia. They fared less well in the second series (MX2 & Open). Jeremy Van Hoorebeek finished thirteenth, Liam Everts fourteenth, dropping Belgium to fifth place. An eleventh place from Jago Geerts and a twelfth from Jeremy Van Horebeek in the third series (Open & MXGP) did not change their ranking any more.
It is the 23rd win for the United States in the unofficial world championship for country teams. This puts them well ahead of Great Britain (16) and Belgium (15) as record holders. The last Belgian win dates from 2013. That was when Clément Desalle, Ken De Dycker and Jeremy Van Horebeek won in Teutschenthal, Germany.
