Belgium decides on sanctions against Israel and on recognition of Palestine

The Belgian government and the regional government of Flanders have reached agreements on how to react to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. On the eve of international meetings, Belgium is willing to recognise the Palestinian state under certain conditions and to sanction Israel concerning goods produced in occupied territories. More humanitarian aid will also be provided.

On Monday, top ministers from both the Flemish and federal governments met to discuss potential sanctions against Israel. Several hours later, the meeting was suspended so that the ministers could attend a networking event organised by VOKA, the Flemish employers' federation.
