Belgians’ top Google searches in 2025: Charlie Kirk, Labubu and Tomorrowland

Belgian internet users spent much of the past year searching for information about the controversial American activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered in September, and the Chinese Labubu figurines, according to Google’s annual overview of search trends.
Each year, Google highlights the queries that recorded the sharpest rise compared with the previous year. In 2025, Charlie Kirk topped the list, the company confirmed in a press release. The right-wing, conservative and Christian activist and influencer was shot dead on 10 September on a university campus in the US state of Utah.
Tomorrowland takes second place, after a major fire at the festival drew widespread public attention last summer. Third is American serial killer Ed Gein, boosted by the release of a Netflix series about his crimes. The Chinese Labubu figurines appear in fourth place, followed by the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Chinese AI tool DeepSeek ranks sixth. The late Belgian actress Emilie Dequenne and the deceased French rapper Werenoi follow in seventh and eighth place. Football completes the top ten: Portuguese player Diogo Jota, who died in July, appears in ninth place, and rights holder DAZN in tenth.
Among Belgian celebrities, Wendy Van Wanten ranks third in the overall top ten, with Google noting that the official recognition of her son Clément drove a spike in searches. In the international celebrity category, the French coach of the Red Devils, Rudi Garcia, comes in second place, just behind American influencer MrBeast.
In the sports rankings, the Belgian Cats were the most searched-for athletes of the year, followed by Belgian cycling champion Tim Wellens and tennis player Zizou Bergs.
