Belgian women's volleyball team qualifies for European Championship after defeating Hungary

The Belgian women's volleyball team has on Wednesday evening secured its place in next year's European Championships. On the fourth and final day of their qualifying group, the Yellow Tigers – as the national women's volleyball team is called - defeated Hungary 3-0 in the Steengoed Arena in Maaseik.
National coach Kris Vansnick's team completed the first two match days in qualifying group B just under a year ago, losing in Hungary (3-0) and winning at home against Denmark (3-0). On Sunday, the Yellow Tigers won their third match away against Denmark (0-3). The victory against Hungary on Wednesday evening means that the team led by star player Britt Herbots finishes the qualifying group in first place.
The seven group winners and the five best runners-up qualified for the European Championships. The tournament will take place next year from 21 August to 6 September in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Sweden.
The Belgian women's volleyball team is having a particularly busy summer, with twelve matches in the Nations League in June and July. They won four matches and earned eleven points. The Yellow Tigers finished fourteenth - out of eighteen teams - in the final standings, thus avoiding relegation.
Later this month, there is the Women's World Championship in Thailand, from 22 August to 7 September.
