Belgian woman found dead on Fuerteventura, son arrested for murder

A 56-year-old Belgian woman has been found dead on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura after several days missing. Her body was discovered on Friday at a waste treatment site in Zurita.

The woman, identified by newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws as Katty Oosterlinck, had been missing since 4 May. Family and friends raised the alarm after they were unable to contact her for several days. Volunteers later joined local police and the Guardia Civil in a search operation.

Spanish authorities have arrested her 22-year-old son on suspicion of murder. According to local media, he is considered the main suspect in the case. Investigators also carried out a reconstruction of events at several locations in Corralejo, where the woman lived.

The exact cause of death is not yet known. Her body has been taken to a forensic institute in Las Palmas, where an autopsy will be carried out.
