Belgian vaccination centers to start booster shots against Covid-19

The autumn vaccination campaign against Covid-19 will start in Belgium tomorrow, Monday, 12 September. In Flanders, thousands of shots will be given again in around 80 vaccination centers in the coming weeks. In Wallonia, 22 vaccination centers reopen their doors and in Brussels, mobile teams will be deployed, alongside four vaccination centres. Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna that have been adapted to the omikron variant of the coronavirus will be administered.
The fall booster is not mandatory, but it is recommended for people with weakened immunity, cohabitants, people over 65 and caregivers. The priority groups are also the first to be invited. But the rest of the adult population will soon receive an invitation. The intention is that by the end of October everyone will have the chance to get an autumn booster, if wanted.
"The aim of the autumn vaccination is to strengthen protection against serious disease caused by COVID-19 before the next outbreak of infections", according to the website Laatjevaccineren.be of the Agency for Care and Health.
"Just as in the general practitioner or in the hospital, it is still mandatory to wear a mouth mask in the vaccination center," says Lien Thoelen, spokeswoman for the agency.
