Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne seizes Formula E world title: "the best feeling ever"

Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) has crowned himself Formula E world champion for the first time in his career on Sunday. The 30-year-old from West Flanders secured the title thanks to a second place in the second ePrix of Seoul, the sixteenth and final round of the electric car world championship.
Vandoorne started the last race of the season with a lead of 21 points over his only remaining rival, New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar), who finished seventh on Sunday. The day's victory in the South Korean capital went to Swiss Edoardo Mortara (Rokit Venturi Racing), who took his fourth win of the season. Briton Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) completed the podium.
Vandoorne won only one ePrix this season - the most prestigious one in Monaco - but showed himself to be very regular. He finished outside the top ten only once (11th place in Mexico). The West-Fleming was on the podium eight times. Vandoorne totals 213 points in the final standings. Evans is second with 180 points, Mortara third with 169 points.
"The car was fantastic and the team did an excellent job. Everyone of us deserves this. What we have achieved is something special"
Vandoorne now succeeds his Dutch teammate Nyck de Vries as Formula E world champion.
"This is the best feeling ever", the Mercedes driver reacted afterwards. "We finished a very regular season. The car was fantastic and the team did an excellent job. Everyone of us deserves this. What we have achieved is something special", said Vandoorne.
"It has been a gruelling year. We have made a lot of efforts. What myself and the team have done is unbelievable", concluded Vandoorne.
