Belgian SMEs export €380m via Amazon, report shows

Belgium’s small and medium-sized businesses exported €380 million through Amazon last year, according to the company’s 2025 SME Impact Report released on Wednesday. Eva Faict, country manager for amazon.com.be, called the figure “a gigantic amount”.
Amazon says more than 90 per cent of Belgian SMEs on its platform now sell abroad. Europe accounts for 190 million euros of their export turnover, a 15 per cent rise on the previous year. Neighbouring countries remain their biggest markets.
Amazon plans to invest €1 billion in Belgium over the coming years, including the launch of same-day deliveries and extra support for SMEs, such as improved data tools and training via its new E-Academy.
Despite the growth, many SMEs still struggle with international expansion. Amazon points to complex VAT rules, fragmented recycling systems and labelling requirements as major obstacles and urges the EU to simplify procedures.
Meanwhile, the EU General Court confirmed this week that Amazon must continue to comply with stricter rules for “very large online platforms”. Faict said the impact on Belgium was unclear but called for a “level playing field”.
