Belgian Kevin De Bruyne named Premier League Player of the Season in England

The Belgian football player Kevin De Bruyne has been voted Premier League Player of the Season, the Premier League announced this Saturday 21 May. It is one of England's individual year-end trophies awarded since 1995. Two other Belgians have won it, Vincent Kompany in 2012 and Eden Hazard in 2015.
“I think my performances this season have been good and I am happy that I have been able to contribute with goals and assists throughout the season," declared De Bruyne in a press release from his British team Manchester City.
This "Premier League Player of the Season" award is given based on public votes combined with the votes of the 20 Premier League captains and a panel of experts.
De Bruyne was preferred over Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Joao Cancelo (Manchester City), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and James Ward -Prowse (Southampton).
“There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs," praised De Bruyne.
The Red Devil has scored 15 goals and provided seven assists this season.
The Manchester City midfielder won this trophy for the second time, after 2020. He thus joined Thierry Henry (2004 and 2006), Cristiano Ronaldo (2007 and 2008) and Nemanja Vidic (2009 and 2011) among the double winners. Last year, his Portuguese teammate Ruben Dias was awarded.
De Bruyne is the double holder of the trophy awarded by the players' union, which has yet to reveal its nominees for this season.
“To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of,” he concluded.
