Belgian Jewish group calls for sanctions against Israel

A group of Belgian Jews has called on Belgian and European leaders to impose sanctions on Israel, saying the country should no longer enjoy “impunity” for its actions against Palestinians.
In a new open letter, the group says Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem continue to face serious human rights violations, despite months of international attention and diplomatic efforts.
The signatories also criticise Israel’s new law allowing the death penalty for certain terrorist offences, arguing it will be applied only to Palestinians. They also condemn Israel’s military offensive in Lebanon, which they say caused thousands of deaths and displaced more than one million people.
The group urges Belgium to ban imports from Israeli settlements and calls on the European Union to do the same. It also wants the EU to suspend its association agreement with Israel.
The letter follows an earlier appeal published in 2025 under the title Not in Our Name. Among the signatories are author Vincent Engel, former Brussels MP Simone Süsskind, former Revue Politique editor Henri Goldman, and former Human Rights League president Olivia Venet.
