Belgian government decides on major reforms just before going on holiday

The federal government of PM Bart De Wever (N-VA) is still undecided over several major reforms, which have to be decided before the holidays. The Chamber has already approved the limitation on the duration of unemployment. A tax reform, a financial reform in health care, a reform of the pension system, and labour market reforms are still on the table.

De Wever has the ambition to push through important socio-economic reforms, to make Belgium more competitive and to reduce the burden on the public finances in the longer term. His coalition partners seem close to a deal after negotiating all night from Thursday to Friday.
