Belgian government allocates 80 million euros to compensate for high energy prices

The federal government is allocating up to 80 million euros for energy support, spread over the coming three months, Belga has learned from government sources. This includes, among other things, a tax incentive for higher mileage allowances for employers and a contribution to the social funds for heating oil, gas, and electricity.

It has also been agreed that Prime Minister Bart De Wever will actively cooperate at the European level on "a strong European framework" for an excess profit tax for companies profiting from the energy crisis.

De Wever was against support measures due to the deep financial problems of Belgian authorities, but coalition partners insisted.
