Belgian Cats win first-ever European Championship after late comeback

The Belgian women's basketball team has written history at the EuroBasket Women's final in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The Belgian Cats beat favourites Spain 64-58 after a thrilling comeback in the last minutes of the match. Emma Meesseman was Belgium's MVP with 24 points.

It is the first international title for a Belgian basketball team. The Cats reached third place in both the 2021 edition in Valencia and the 2017 edition in Prague. At the World Cup in Sydney last year, Belgium finished fifth.
