Belgian authorities confirm support for Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix

Both the Walloon and federal governments have reaffirmed their support for the Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix in a letter to the Formula 1 authorities, Walloon MP Diana Nikolic was told on Wednesday.
Walloon minister for the Economy Willy Borsus was questioned in committee in the Walloon Parliament about the future of the Grand Prix in Francorchamps. Several media recently reported that the F1 management is considering not to include the track in the calendar for next season.
According to Borsus, a meeting was held Tuesday morning between representatives of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the Grand Prix, F1 management and the Region. He explained that he is "personally involved in the dossier", alongside Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo and with the support of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
The contract between the Grand Prix and F1 expires this year. No decision has yet been taken, but it is said to be imminent. Borsus reiterated that he is convinced that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which is highly appreciated by its drivers, "still has a future in F1".
