Belgian architecture firm Assar acquired by Sweden’s Sweco Group

The Swedish engineering group Sweco has acquired Assar, a leading Belgian architectural firm, the two companies announced in a joint statement on Thursday. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Assar employs around 150 people across Belgium, Luxembourg and France, and has played a major role in several high-profile construction and renovation projects in recent years, including the new NATO headquarters in Brussels. The firm is known for its multidisciplinary approach to architecture and urban development.
According to the companies, the partnership will create 'strong synergies' and offer integrated solutions with greater added value. “With Sweco’s international reach, we will accelerate the urban transition and contribute to a more sustainable society,” said Renaud Chevalier, Assar’s CEO.
Sweco plans to merge Assar’s architectural expertise with that of VK Studio, another Belgian firm acquired earlier by Sweco, under the new brand Sweco Architects. The Swedish group emphasised that it will continue to collaborate closely with independent architectural offices alongside its own expanded design division.
