Skater Bart Swings wins European mass start title in Heerenveen

Bart Swings won gold in the mass start at the European Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, on Sunday.

Swings put together an intelligent race and was in the lead going into the final straight. The 32-year-old finished in 8:13.71 ahead of Austria's Gabriel Odor (second in 8:13.93) and Norway's Allan Dahl Johansson (third in 8:13.99). Indra Medard finished 12th in 8:15.87.

Swings has already won the European Championships in this event twice, in 2020 and 2022. He also won Olympic gold in the mass start at the Beijing Winter Games in 2022.
