Axa launches insurance offering psychological assistance to bullied youth

Insurance company Axa has on Saturday launched a new insurance policy that reimburses psychological support for bullied children and adolescents in Belgium. The insurer emphasises that easy access to psychological help reduces the impact of bullying. The insurance has been available for some time in France, where Axa also operates.
Parents who are insured for legal assistance with Axa can now also receive support for psychological help if their children are bullied. Specifically, Axa will reimburse psychological consultations for bullied youth. In addition, the children's parents will also receive help to provide appropriate support to their children and to initiate mediation. In serious cases, victims will also be assisted in filing a complaint with the police.
Axa underlines that everyone has a role to play in preventing and remedying bullying behaviour among children and young people. “Schools and associations play a crucial role in this, and there are many helplines available,” stated Axa director Erik Heggen. “At AXA, we have decided to expand our offering and cover psychological support for the children of our policyholders when they are bullied.” The insurer argues that easy access to psychological help reduces the impact of bullying.
The insurance has been available for some time in France, where Axa also operates. There, the insurer offers protection against bullying at school as part of its legal assistance insurance or as an additional option in its school insurance. In the event of bullying, the child is then legally protected and can amongst others receive psychological telephone support. In Belgium, Axa claims to be the first insurer to offer such a product.
