Atlantic Wall Raversyde receives European Heritage Award

The Battery Aachen, part of Atlantikwall Raversyde, received the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards on Friday. The prize is awarded to initiatives in the field of heritage preservation. The Battery Aachen won in the category 'conservation and conversion'. The bronze plaque was officially handed over to Atlantikwall Raversyde on Friday.

The battery is the only German coastal battery from the First World War of which enough remains to understand its structure. During the Second World War, Battery Aachen was reused as part of the Atlantic Wall.

The Battery Aachen also has a chance of winning the Public Choice Award. This will be awarded on the 26th of September during an official ceremony in Prague. You can vote for the Battery Aachen until 11 September via vote.europanostra.org.
