Antwerp’s Museum De Reede curates major Goya exhibition for Europalia España

As part of the Europalia España arts festival, Antwerp's Museum De Reede has launched a new temporary exhibition dedicated to the Spanish master Francisco de Goya. Renowned for its focus on graphic art, the museum is displaying almost 200 of Goya’s aquatints, providing one of the most extensive overviews of his print work in Belgium.
Located along Antwerp’s Scheldt quays, the private museum was founded by collector Harry Rutten and holds an extensive collection of works by Goya, Rops and Munch. With Spain taking centre stage at this year's Europalia festival, De Reede seized the opportunity to double the number of Goya drawings on display.
Titled Timeless Mastery, the exhibition runs until June 2026 and features prints from Goya’s most famous series, including Los Caprichos, Los Desastres de la Guerra, Los Disparates and La Tauromaquia.

Visitors can examine the intricate details of Goya’s etchings using magnifying glasses provided by the museum and access additional information via integrated QR codes.
“This is a rare opportunity to experience Goya’s critical eye and imaginative power, which continue to captivate audiences centuries later,” the museum says.
Europalia is a major biennial arts festival that highlights the cultural heritage and contemporary art of a selected guest country. Founded in 1969 and based in Brussels, its inaugural edition honoured Italy. Since then, Europalia has expanded beyond Europe, with past editions dedicated to Japan, China, Mexico, Brazil and Indonesia.
This year, the festival is celebrating Spain’s artistic legacy with exhibitions, performances and collaborations across Belgium.
