Antwerp recording studio Galaxy relaunched by local investors

Music studio Galaxy Studios, which was declared bankrupt at the end of 2023, has been taken over by a group of local investors.
The studio, in Antwerp province, was forced to close after the pandemic, with the loss of 10 jobs. Founded in 1982, the company had debts of 8 million euros when it shut. It is due to reopen for business on Wednesday under the new name Galaxy World.
Founders Wilfried and Guy Van Baelen set up the business in the backyard of their parents’ home in Mol. The studio increasingly focused on the film sector and was nicknamed Mollywood.
Many Belgian and international artists recorded there, including Clouseau, dEUS, Will Tura, Rammstein, Mary J Blige, conductor Dirk Brossé and the Brussels Philharmonic.

The new head of the music complex is entrepreneur Wim Buyens. “Technically and acoustically, the studio in Mol is unrivalled,” he said. “That’s why we see this as an international project.”
The group of investors behind the relaunch is largely anonymous and the amount invested is also undisclosed. “In the long term, we definitely want to facilitate music artists in our country,” said Buyens. “But we are also looking at the film and gaming world, where sound is really fundamental.”
