Antwerp Central station operational again after discovery of suspicious package

Train services at Antwerp Central are operating again following the discovery of a suspicious package just outside the station on Tuesday morning. The security cordon has been lifted and platforms 1 to 3 on level +1 are accessible again, network manager Infrabel has confirmed.

Pelikaanstraat, where the package was found, has also been cleared. The DOVO bomb disposal unit attended the scene to examine the suspicious package.

“It turned out to contain nitrous oxide,” said police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns. “There is no danger and the situation is back to normal.” An investigation has been launched into the owner of the package.

Several entrances were closed as a precaution after the package was found and Pelikaanstraat was closed to all traffic. Train services ran but three platforms were closed, leading to some delays.
