American protesters denounce Donald Trump’s policies at demonstration in Brussels

Around 50 American-Belgian protesters staged a demonstration outside the US embassy in Brussels on Saturday. At the “No Tyrants” protest, the protesters denounced president Donald Trump’s domestic and foreign policies.
The protest took place on Saturday opposite the US embassy in Brussels. It was organised by Democrats Abroad, the Democratic Party organisation for Americans living outside the US.
Protesters sought to take a stand against Trump’s domestic and foreign policies. They denounced the incursions into Venezuela, his rhetoric regarding Greenland and the US-Israeli war in the Middle East.
One of the protesters, American voter Linda, said she found it astonishing how little pushback the Trump administration faced both at home and abroad. “Trump is waging an illegal war in the Middle East, but nobody seems to care. It’s unbelievable that Belgium hasn’t yet imposed sanctions, such as a boycott of American products in shops,” she said.
Mother and son Carla and Julian Holme said that “Trump no longer has a shred of respect for the Constitution” but remain firmly convinced that “American democracy is not yet doomed”.
“Democracy will survive, but we will have to suffer for it,” said Carla Holme. “I think that if we all go into battle together with the people, we can win the fight for democracy," her son added.
Both owe their fighting spirit to Carla’s father. “He died in 2020 at the age of 95, but throughout his life, my father fought for democracy and against fascism in France and Belgium," she said. "We are continuing his struggle here today.”
