American protesters denounce Donald Trump’s policies at demonstration in Brussels

Around fifty American-Belgian protesters staged a demonstration outside the US embassy in Brussels on Saturday. At the “No Tyrants” protest, organised by Democrats Abroad, the protesters denounced president Donald Trump’s domestic and foreign policies.
The “No Tyrants” protest took place on Saturday from 2 pm opposite the US embassy in Brussels. It was organised by Democrats Abroad, the Democratic Party organisation for Americans living outside the US.
The protesters sought to take a stand against Trump’s domestic and foreign policies. They amongst others denounced the incursions into Venezuela, the rhetoric regarding Greenland, and the bombings and the US-Israeli war in the Middle East.
One of the protesters, American voter Linda, emphasised that she finds it astonishing how little pushback the Trump administration faces both at home and abroad. “Trump is waging an illegal war in the Middle East, but nobody seems to care. It’s unbelievable that Belgium hasn’t yet imposed sanctions, such as a boycott of American products in shops,” she stated.
Americans Carla and Julian Holme, mother and son, said that “Trump no longer has a shred of respect for the Constitution” but remain firmly convinced that “American democracy is not yet doomed”.
“Democracy will survive, but we will have to suffer for it,” stated Carla Holme. “I think that if we all go into battle together with the people, we can win the fight for democracy," added her son Julian.
Both mother and son owe their fighting spirit to Carla’s father. “He died in 2020 at the age of 95, but throughout his life, my father fought for democracy and against fascism in France and Belgium. We are continuing his struggle here today.”
