Ambassadors join forces to celebrate Flemish food culture
A new initiative from tourism body VisitFlanders will promote the region's culinary heritage. Its goal is to boost Flanders as a destination for both local and international food lovers.
The Ambassadors of Goesting are 21 chefs, chocolatiers, brewers, hosts and food manufacturers who have joined forces on an "exciting alliance to promote Flanders as a culinary destination", the organisation said in a press release.
"Flemings are real epicureans, good food and drinks are deeply rooted in their DNA," says chef Wim Ballieu. "They come to our restaurants in large numbers and with great enthusiasm, which allows me to fully and continuously develop my profession. The fact that I can be part of a collective of passionate culinary professionals is fantastic. I am proud to be able to further develop and propagate the culinary wealth of Flanders with them."
Frédéric Van Tricht, cheese affineur and one of the ambassadors, also wants to put Flanders on the culinary map. "I can't think of anything better than teaming up with other craftsmen who share the same passion for food and drink as me," he says. "It's the perfect opportunity to show the world how delicious products are in Flanders."
The term "goesting" translates to the English "craving" or "desire". The ambassadors' manifesto relies not only on the enjoyment of the rich food of Flanders but also on educating the public about how food from the region impacts society, nature and health.
