Air traffic control strike: Flights to and from Belgium to come to a halt

Air traffic to and from Belgium will be suspended from 14:00 on Tuesday due to industrial action at Skeyes, according to the air traffic control company.
A spontaneous strike by controllers overnight on Monday led to 30 passenger flight cancellations at Charleroi Airport and affected around 40 cargo flights at Liège Airport. Skeyes has confirmed that traffic will be halted again on Tuesday afternoon.
At Brussels Airport, around 25 departing flights were delayed by one to two hours, and two flights bound for Zaventem had to be diverted to other airports. DHL’s cargo operations at Brussels were also disrupted.
Staff are protesting against the conditions under which the future digital control tower in Namur is to be brought into service. The centre is set to centralise the operations of the control towers at Liège and Charleroi airports from next year.
