AB InBev remains world’s leading brewery

Brewer AB InBev, based in Leuven, remains the global market leader in beer production, according to the annual report by the world’s largest hop merchant, BarthHaas.
AB InBev brewed more than 49.5 billion litres of beer last year, the report shows, accounting for more than a quarter of global production. The company also makes more than twice as much beer as the second-placed producer, Heineken, at 24 billion litres. China Resources Snow Breweries is in third place with around 10 billion litres.
AB InBev's brands include Stella Artois, Budweiser, Corona and Brahma.
The other Belgian player in the top 40 may not be so familiar to the public: Limburg’s Brouwerij Martens in 38th place. However, the country’s second-largest brewery accounted for 480 million litres, or 0.3 per cent of global production, last year.
Martens has its own beers – Martens, Sezoens, Kristoffel and 1758 – but it mainly brews private labels for European supermarkets, including Aldi.
The report shows that total global beer production fell slightly last year, by 0.3 per cent, to 187.5 billion litres.
